The Breezy Chapel is a preaching station of
the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and is administered by Mission of
the Cross Lutheran Church of Crosslake. Everyone is welcome to
worship at the Chapel on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. from Memorial Day through
Labor Day weekends.
The chapel is normally available for
the marriage of those Christian couples who have had pre-marital
counseling. Baptism and/or adult confirmation are available year-round
for those who would like to become Christians and/or members of the
Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Contact the church office at Mission
of the Cross Lutheran Church for more details (218-692-4228).
Contact Mission of the Cross Lutheran
Church to find out what the current rate is to the use the Chapel for a
wedding or Baptism. The Chapel use fee is payable in advance to the
pastor at MOTC. Make checks payable to "Breezy Point Chapel" with your
wedding date on the "memo" line of the check. Since our primary concern
is the welfare of your marriage, marriage preparation classes are
required. You may do so through your home congregation or through
Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church.
Here are the answers to some commonly
asked questions about the Breezy Point Chapel:
- OPERATION - the
chapel is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. It can be
used before or after those days only by special permission by the
committee or its appointee. It is used primarily for Sunday morning
worship at 10:00 AM each Sunday.
- SCHEDULING -
scheduling of special events such as weddings is done through
Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church. Contact Mission of the Cross
Lutheran Church to inquire about scheduling an event at the Chapel
(218-692-4228).
- WHO CAN BE
MARRIED THERE - we only allow Christian weddings at the chapel. We
do not allow couples to get married there using a judge for a civil
ceremony. It also cannot be a Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, etc. ceremony.
We require that an ordained Christian pastor perform the ceremony.
We also require pre-marital counseling before the marriage done by
either a pastor or certified marriage counselor.
- CAN THE PASTOR
AT MOTC DO THE WEDDING - the pastor at MOTC can do the service
as long as the requirements are met of pre-marital counseling and
the couple desires a Christian wedding. Pre-marital sessions are
free ($35 fee for inventory) and usually take anywhere from 3-5 weeks.
- WHAT IS THE
COST - for non-members of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (who
may use the Chapel free of charge) the fee is currently $750 to use
the chapel. This is payable prior to the wedding with a check for
$750 made payable to the Breezy Point Chapel. This fee is subject to
change. Please contact Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church to get a
quote for the current chapel fee.
- HOW MANY PEOPLE
WILL THE CHAPEL SEAT - the chapel can seat 120 with its current
configuration, and with added chairs it can seat as many as 140 to
150.
- DOES THE CHAPEL
HAVE HEAT OR AIR CONDITIONING - The chapel does have a furnace, but
does not have an air conditioning system. Ceiling fans and
floor fans do help cool the chapel.
- IS THERE WATER
AT THE CHAPEL - yes, the chapel has running water and indoor
restrooms.
- CAN PEOPLE TOUR
THE CHAPEL - yes, it can be seen by appointment with the pastor at
MOTC.
- WHAT HAPPENS
AFTER LABOR DAY - the chapel is closed for the season. We encourage
those who worship there on Sundays to attend an area church,
preferably Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church in Crosslake or
Gloria Dei in Pequot Lakes.
