Pastor Steve AndersonThe current Pastor at Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church is Pastor Steve Anderson. Pastor Anderson was ordained and installed as MOTC's second resident pastor in June of 2003. Pastor Anderson was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. The older of two sons, he attended elementary school and junior high school in Lincoln before his father accepted a position as a printer for a small pharmaceutical firm in Baudette, MN. In 1980, the Anderson family moved from Nebraska to tiny Baudette located on Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota on the Canadian border. Pastor Anderson attended high school at rural Indus High School where he was a varsity letterman in Hockey, speech, drama, and track. At graduation he was awarded the Lee Hasbargen Award, which is given every year to the outstanding senior in the areas of academics, athletics, and community involvement. After graduation he attended Rainy River Community College in International Falls to pursue a radio career. Pastor Anderson worked for KBHW in International Falls as well as the popular "Night Shift" program DJ at KGHS/KSDM. Upon completion of his two year degree, he went to Bemidji State University where he completed his four year bachelor's degree in English. In 1988 he married Joanne (Nordine) of Roosevelt, MN who was a nursing student at RRCC. They lived in Baudette where she worked as a nurse and he worked at the pharmaceutical firm in Baudette - Solvay Pharmaceuticals - for 10 years. Steve, Joanne, and their two daughters, Emily and Carolyn, all attended Bethlehem Lutheran in Baudette where Steve was an Elder. In 1999 the family moved to St. Louis so that Steve could begin his seminary formation at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Pastor Anderson and his family live in the Crosslake area near O'Brien Lake. Joanne is a nurse working at the Pine River Family Clinic. Emily and Carolyn both attend school in Pequot Lakes. The fifth member of the family - "Farley"- is a Shih Tzu/Pomeranian mix whose primary responsibilities seem to be chewing shoes and sleeping. When not working to advance the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus, Pastor Anderson enjoys fishing, golfing, hunting, watching football, and keeping his shoes away from Farley. |
